How to Apply Gel Nail Polish Like a Pro

Gel manicures are one of the most popular ways to get long-lasting, glossy nails. But for a flawless finish, application is key. If you want to improve your technique, follow these steps for a high-quality finish every time.

1. Prep Your Nails: Start by gently pushing back your cuticles with an Eco or Spoon Pusher and buffing the surface of your nails using the 100/180 Nail Buffer. Clean off any oils or residue using Nail Surface Cleanse. This ensures the gel will adhere properly and last longer.

2. Apply a Thin Base Coat: Apply a thin layer of Foundation Base Coat, making sure to seal the edges of your nails. Cure your nails under a Gelish LED lamp according to the manufacturer’s instructions. It’s better to go thin with each layer to avoid a bulky finish.

3. Apply Gel Polish in Thin Layers: When applying the Gelish Soak Off Polish color, work with thin layers. Start at the base and work your way to the tip, capping the edges to prevent lifting. Cure each layer under the lamp before applying the next.

4. Seal It With a Top Coat: Finish with a top coat for that signature gel shine. Don’t forget to cap the edges to prevent chipping! Cure one final time under LED light.

5. Clean Off the Sticky Layer: After curing the top coat, your nails may have a sticky residue. Clean this off with a lint-free wipe soaked in Nail Surface Cleanse to reveal a smooth, glossy finish.
